‘Against Me!’ frontman Tom Gabel comes out as transgender

Tom Gabel, the married lead singer of punk rock band Against Me!, has told Rolling Stone magazine that he has suffered gender dysphoria for years and plans to begin his transition to become a woman.
Gabel is the first major rock musician to come out as transgender and he says he feels that it is important to talk openly about it.

“Growing up, my experience with transsexualism was nothing but shame,” says Gabel in the interview.
The 31-year-old says that he is not attracted to men and will still remain married to his wife Heather. The couple have a two-year-old daughter.
Gabel’s new name will be Laura Jane Grace and he plans to take hormones and undergo electrolysis. He also is considering gender reassignment surgery.
Against Me! are best known for the song Thrash Unreal, and have released five full-length studio albums. The group will go on tour in the US with The Cult later this month.
