Arriving slightly early as the 46th anniversary of the Star Trek show is actually on Saturday, but fans who are having trouble working on Friday definitely appreciated the distraction of the doodle. The interactive angle of the doodle had Google working with CBS to have original sound effect and keep the characters true to the show. However the storyline, even though it does cater to a particular episode, apparently has some liberty added as it was acknowledged it wasn’t 100% faithful.

For fans of Star Trek and the television world in general, the chance to honor television character is a new direction for the Google doodles. Usually focusing on birthdays, anniversaries and holidays of real people, the angle of focusing on a science fiction television show is definitely a first for fans.
