According to reports in the US the unnamed woman was eating a Double Bypass sandwich at the The Heart Attack Grill, a hospital-themed diner with a motto of “Taste Worth Dying For”.
Owner Jon Basso said that his customer was “eating, drinking, smoking, laughing, dancing, having fun” before she was taken ill.
“When you treat your body like that day in and day out, eventually your body is going to give out,” he told the Los Angeles Times.
In February a man was wheeled out by paramedics after eating a “Triple Bypass Burger”.
All the diner’s burger buns are smothered in lard, while the Quadruple Bypass has four half-pound meat patties and eight slices of processed American cheese. A side order of 20 slices of bacon is available for $3.69 (£2.50). It has a calorie count of 8,000 to 10,000 and according to Mr Basso has just been honoured by the Guinness Book of World Records for serving the most calorific sandwich.
The restaurant grants free meals to customers who weigh more than 25 stone (350 pounds) and prides itself on taking a stand against the diet culture. Staff members dress in medical gear and an ambulance is parked outside.
Mr Basso said of customers: “We attract that very bleeding edge, that avant-garde of risk takers.”
