Ferguson needs QPR manager Mark Hughes to take points off City in the final game of the season.
Sir Alex Ferguson knows Hughes, who was sacked by City, will have a point to prove at his former club: “QPR need a point and they’re fighting for survival.
“The whole future of the club could be resting on the game and I only wish Sparky (Hughes) was playing.
“But Mark knows his job all right. He was sacked by City in a very unethical way and he’ll remember that.”
Hughes certainly has plenty of incentive, both for his own side’s fate and because of the treatment he received from City, where he was sacked as manager in 2009 with Roberto Mancini already lined up to replace him.
United’s win against Swansea means they will go into the last day trailing City on goal difference, which they have no realistic chance of clawing back when they play Sunderland.
Should City beat QPR, United would likely become the first team to lose the league on goal difference since 1965.
