The Beverly Hills Police Department have ruled her death was a result of accidental drowning with investigators finding “no evidence of foul play”.

In the 911 recording, a hotel security officer is heard telling emergency services that a 46-year-old female had been “found in the bathroom” and was “not breathing”.

He says: “I’m not sure if she fell or if she was in the bathroom with the water.”

When the operator asks if she had started breathing, the security officer replies: “I don’t know. The person that called me was irate and pretty much out of it.”

“Can you get me into the room so I can try to give CPR instructions?” the 911 operator asks.

“No, because she kept hanging up on us,” he answers.

Houston was last seen alive by her personal assistant in her Beverly Hilton hotel room about 3pm on Saturday February 11.

According to the autopsy report her assistant had left to run errands after telling Houston to take a bath in preparation for a pre-Grammy Awards party at the hotel that night.

The final coroner’s report released last week, said white powder, along with a spoon, mirror and rolled-up paper, were found in the hotel room where Houston died.

Her naked body was found by an assistant face down in the bathtub after she was left alone for about an hour.

The police have closed the case following its investigation and a review of the coroner’s report.

In a statement, it said: “We have determined that this is not a criminal matter. The BHPD investigation has been officially closed.”

Houston was one of the world’s most successful singers in the 80s and 90s with hits like I Will Always Love You and Saving All My Love For You.

She won a Grammy award for album of the year in 1994 for the soundtrack to The Bodyguard in which she made her acting debut alongside Kevin Costner.

Houston was married to singer Bobby Brown for 15 years with whom she had a daughter, Bobbi Kristina.

She had a well-documented battle with drug addiction which contributed to a decline in her career.

In 2009, she made a moderately successful comeback album, I Look To You, and more recently resurrected her acting career with a role in new film Sparkle which is due for release later this year.
